Sun, Sea and History On Your All Inclusive Holidays to Turkey

Turkey has been a popular destination among holidaymakers for decades. Due to the county’s geographical position as a gateway between Europe and Asia it is rich in culture and history, thanks to having played host to the Greeks and the Ottomans.

The marks of various historical civilisations can be seen all over  Turkey and along with clear skies and golden sandy beaches on the coast so  cheap holidays to Turkey are always in demand for those who want history, culture and plenty of sunshine.

Bodrum was one of the first areas of Turkey to open up to tourism and has thrived, modernising at break neck speed in some places. The areas outside of the old city and the surrounding Peninsula have some beautiful sandy beaches and an array of watersports for holidaymakers to try out. For visitors that want to go hiking the hilly inland terrain is perfect and the old grain windmills on top of the surrounding hills are a beautiful backdrop for a day out walking.

In the centre of old Bodrum there are a few things to see, starting with the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the former name of Bodrum, making  cheap holidays to Turkey feel anything but; saving the wallet and enriching the mind. The Mausoleum was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, built in 350BC it stood over 40m tall and had fallen into ruin by the time the Knights of St John arrived in 1402. The Knights used stones from the Mausoleum to build the Castle of St Peter, the current main attraction in Bodrum which houses a nautical museum full of locally discovered treasures.

Getting around the Aegean coast is relatively easy for tourists with regular bus services to Marmaris and other popular destinations. If visitors can drag themselves away from the beautiful marina and beaches surrounding Bodrum a trip to Lake Bafa may prove popular. Mount Latmos forms a spectacular 4,000 ft backdrop to the lake and the lakeside ruins of Herakleia, a former port town should not be missed.

During the high season there are regular boat services around the coast and to the Greek Islands of Rhodes and Kos. The hydrofoil to Kos is a little expensive compared to the three hour bus journey down to Marmaris but considering it only takes an hour the fare is worth it and ensures visitors really get the most from their  all inclusive holidays to Turkey . Holidaymakers will be able to sit on the sun baked deck of the boat enjoying sea air and beautiful views of the Islands and the Turkish coast before touching down to sample the bars and restaurants of the Greek Islands.
